This conference matters to me because it is a rare opportunity for me as a civil society representative to get directly in touch with leading members of the G7 and representatives of institutions supporting the Deauville Partnership. Yemen is currently going through a devastating violent conflict the end of which seems unforeseeable at this point in time. It has faced economic difficulties for many decades and while the war is currently destroying the last institutions and structures supporting the country’s economy, there will also be a rare opportunity after the war to rebuild such structures and institutions in such a way that they will support real economic development in Yemen in a way that was not possible before due to the hampering role the country’s elites have played in the past. I would be proud to have contributed to such positive change.
